My Students

We are a 5th integrated co-teaching classroom with 2 teachers and 2 para professionals. Every morning we greet the students good morning and they reply with each of our names. 13 of our 30 students have some sort of learning disability. Many others have focusing issues.

We have 30 students in our classroom.

They come from all different backgrounds and all different walks of life. They all have their own unique personality. The kids are very friendly and kind to each other. They enjoy having a good laugh with us, but also know when it is time to focus. They function at all different levels, but they accept each other for their differences. Each and everyone of them have their own dream for the future, from a medical examiner to a professional baseball player; they all know what they want for a successful future.

My Project

My students need 10 headphones, 2 headphone jack splitters and a Bluetooth speaker, because many of them have speech and language disorders. These tools will help them listen to texts they need. With the materials I am requesting, the students with speech and language disorders will be able to hear texts read to them multiple times, which is necessary for them to comprehend a text. They can also listen to tests read to them multiple times. These materials would allow multiple students to work together, so that my co-teacher and I can help others at the same time. For other students without speech and language disorders, these materials can help them focus or listen to something off an iPad as a reward. We will also use them to playback videos that the class will make so that they can watch it in a small group.

These donations will help us reach more students in the classroom.

It will allow students to hear texts multiple times, which research has shown is necessary for students with speech and language disorders. It will give our students a sense of accomplishment and it will give them the self confidence they need to succeed.
