My Students

I teach U.S. & Virginia History, and U.S. Government to some great City of Richmond 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. TJHS is a historic, beautiful all granite school. It was built in 1930 in Richmond's near west end. "Tee-Jay" is a combined comprehensive and International Baccalaureate School which serves students of all backgrounds and abilities. Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student.

While we have classic "old school" slate by chalk boards and wooden floors, we are very challenged by the technology gap in our gear.

My students are "Digital Natives", and have great talents when it comes to the use of technology. They find it motivating, interesting, and fun to learn when learning activities are paired with use of technology. Having the right tech gear is crucial to maintaining high levels of student engagement.

My Project

Help close the technology gap and enhance student engagement in my classroom. We are wanting to acquire 5 tablets with protective cases to help students research, collaborate, and build multi-media projects. Help enhance my ability to use flipped classroom, and project based learning. That and more becomes possible with better tech gear in my classroom. Help spark interest and boost learning for all my favorite students.

It has been a pre-Christmas break tradition in my classroom that students imagine they were someone from American History and create their Facebook page.

Your donation will help my students complete these and other fun projects, play Kahoot, use the latest apps, and to easily take short quizzes, or complete other informal types of assessments.
