Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a 7th grade self-contained Special Education class. Every child is gifted, they just unwrap their packages at different times.

They are very active and enthusiastic learners with different personalities.

Even though they are in a self-contained Special Education class (meaning it is a smaller class) their thirst for knowledge is like any other student. However, they really try their best and want to be better than the rest of the other students in other classes.

My Project

My students do not have the luxuries that others have and even buying school supplies is a challenge. The materials will be used as follows: Post-It Notes: These will be used by all of my students as a way of organizing their thoughts. In addition, they provide my students with the opportunity to write down what they want to share with their group. Some of my students are shy, therefore in order to increase class participation, I have my students write down their responses on Post-it notes and then read it to their group. Also, we have an activity in which all students will post their responses on a chart called "Post-It Together" Then they work as a group to come up with a group response. Writing Process Folder: The writing process folder will help my students visualize the steps taken in writing an effective essay. In addition, they will help my students keep their writing organized. Timers: This will allow my students to become accountable on how much time they need to complete their work.

I am asking for some supplies that are mostly for engaging my students beyond the every day routine.

They will improve my students' self-esteem as they will know that people who do not know them care about their academic success.
