My Students

Every August, mailboxes are bombarded with fliers for back-to-school materials. For many of us, buying new notebooks brings a sense of excitement of a new year to come. But for many students and their families, these ads bring a feeling of stress and anxiety when the total cost is added up.

My students live in low income neighborhoods of Brooklyn; for many of them, just coming to school is a struggle each day.

While they may experience a variety of obstacles most of us can only imagine, my students also have the brightest smiles and a strong "want" to learn. They come in each and every day with the best attitude they can have: hands raising, ready to go.

My Project

The materials that we are requesting are "every day" materials, things like pens, pencils, highlighters, index cards. Supplying these materials in class will alleviate a lot of the pressure for families on trying to afford these items and allow all students to be successful in class and master the rigorous learning of ELA!

With the donation of school supplies, all students will have access to the tools they need to tackle learning and be successful in class.

By having the supplies already in class, my students will be able to focus on the work in front of them - not stressing the tools they need, or feel embarrassed because they may not have the same materials as their classmates.
