My Students

"Are you ready to learn something new today Tigers?" is what I always ask my reading, language arts, and writing students every day. They always answer with a resounding "Yes we are!" as they enter my class.

My school has a high number of students who are first-generation Haitian-American immigrants, and now we have started welcoming students impacted by Hurricane Maria.

Although some of our students come from impoverished and/or devastated homes, they are rich in resilience, love, and hope.

Even though we have to cater for and adapt to such a wide range of learning needs, we know that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology (and teachers who care). As their teacher, my main objective is to enhance and improve their young learning experiences.

My Project

Our third-grade classroom needs an all in one color printer for our students to print out their assignments and the results of their hard work. If this printer project is funded, our students will have unlimited access to resources that they could print out. We would also need extra ink cartridges as there would be numerous pages of materials printed to accommodate every child.

Also, with a colored multifunctional printer, I will be able to create and print out dynamic instructional materials that are not readily available in hard copy.

In the past and currently, my students are limited because there are no hard copies or insufficient materials to share. We will no longer have to turn down an enthusiastic student who wants to print their typed work because there is no printer.

The overall reading skills of my students will be built and enhanced by the use of another Chromebook as they are moving in a tech-savvy direction and we need one more Chromebook so they can work in groups of five at a time.

Our school is also in the process of being a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) designated school; therefore, exposing my students to new technological advances using Chromebooks will also put them at a great advantage.
