My Students

My school is one of many in a large Special Education inner city school district who's population consists of children that have been diagnosed with Autism. My class consists of six second grade students who come from various ethnic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds who have been diagnosed with multiple disabilities; Autism, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Visual Impairments as well as a variety of learning disabilities and speech and language impairments. In spite of my students daily challenges and struggles, they come to school every day eager, excited, and ready to learn!

I am asking for your help to supply our classroom with a variety of fun, engaging and hands on educational materials that will help each of my students master individual cognitive, motor, linguistic and social-emotional goals.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting will be utilized on a daily basis to support my student's learning and understanding of core concepts and skill across all developmental domains. The Family Engagement Math and Language packs, Early Language folder games and Science Instant Learning Centers will be utilized during work stations to provide my students with both educational and engaging hands on materials so they can explore common core concepts across all content areas in fun and exciting ways! These Family Engagement packs will also be used as take home activities for families to use with their children to foster the importance of the home/school connection.

The leveled library will help my students become successful and enthusiastic readers and foster a love of reading.

This library will be used along with the Read Along Listening Center, for both small group guided reading and independent reading activities. The headphones from the listening center will allow each student to focus more readily on their own work and minimize auditory distractions. Each of my students is on a different reading level and has very specific needs; this library will make it easier to differentiate instruction, address individualized student needs, and to ensure that all of my students become successful readers. The Best Buy Book Bag set will also allow my students to use the leveled library as a lending library so they can take books home to practice reading with their families.
