Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are energetic, enthusiastic, loving, and full of grit. I teach a diverse group of learners with various backgrounds. My main priority is to ensure my students feel safe, welcomed, and cared for when they walk through my door. This year I started a classroom pantry. Within the first week of school I saw how important and instrumental this was. I realized many of my students did not bring snacks from home and would be hungry for most of the day. This broke my heart, which is why I created a classroom pantry.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs states that human's basic needs, like the need for food, shelter, and safety, must be met before they can begin focusing on higher-level needs like learning.

In order to make sure that all of my students are at school ready to learn and that none of them are worried about when they​ will eat next, it is imperative that I keep the pantry stocked at all times. These food items will keep the pantry stocked and also help to keep my students focused on learning.
