My Project

Sensory regulation is essential for learning in an autism classroom! Many autistic students require movement breaks many times throughout their day to help their minds and bodies be ready to learn. By creating a "sensory regulation space" within my classroom, students will have access to the tools they need to regulate at any given time of the day! Not only will this create independence for my students, but it will also help them learn to listen to their bodies and know what tools they need to self-regulate when frustrated, overwhelmed, tired, or when they simply need a break!

My goal is to foster independence, embrace sensory differences, and help my students to self-advocate for their needs when necessary.

Whether a student needs to swing, spin, jump onto a crash pad, or roll up in a mat for some deep pressure, providing them with access to these items will help them meet those needs inside of the classroom without adding extra transitions to their day.
