My Project

I teach Studio Art to grades 3k- 8th. Our school is a Title I school with students from diverse backgrounds and with a range of learning needs. In studio art, students bond over the experience of exchanging creative ideas, experimenting with various materials, and learning more about themselves as young artists and designers. After reflecting on this previous school year and considering my students feedback, I created this project to assist me in starting the 2023-2024 school year strong.

The items requested for this project will empower my students to further develop their independence as learners and it will minimize the loss of precious instructional time due to organizational lack of resources.

My Studio Art classroom was previously a library, therefore it has lots of shelving but the shelves are not quite deep enough for certain art materials. The storage cart begins to solve this problem. I plan to use these carts to prepare kits for students that will have the materials they will need for their projects. Students will be able to pull these drawers out and bring it to their tables with enough supplies for the entire group. File folders will support me in organizing student portfolios and keeping artworks in progress organized for daily distribution. This is especially important because I teach 10 different grade levels and my schedule can vary between middle school and elementary grades from one period to the next. Sketchbooks are included because they are an intrinsic part of our daily routine where students record their ideas and/or experiment with art materials at the beginning of every lesson. The book bins included will help us keep our sketchbooks organized and easily accessible as well.
