My Students
At our middle school, I teach special education. As a special education teacher, you deal with a variety of different student needs and skillsets. My students have a variety of interests as well as advantages and disadvantages in the classroom. Our school is a school that strives for inclusivity and I myself make it my mission to make every student feel heard, accepted, understood and accommodated. I like to think of how children are like clay, they are moldable and impressionable, yet have their own substance. I would love to continue to build on this substance and help my students to feel comfortable and at home in their home away from home.
My Project
This project would mean being more organized in the classroom. With storage drawers and cleaning supplies, the students can be in a non-cluttered and germ free environment. Also with things like hanging organizers, pens, staplers, tape, scissors, etc, I can make the centers in my middle school math special education classroom more organized and with supplies that students use almost daily in their interactive notebooks and other assignments we do to modify the math curriculum.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they have what they feel they need to succeed and do not feel overwhelmed.
These supplies will allow me to provide them with more tools, as well as keep the resources available to them up to date.
