Classroom Microbits

Help me give my students Microbits to expand STEM based knowledge in the classroom.

My Project

Microbits are used in many STEM classrooms to provide a unit and understanding of python coding. Students are engaged with the use of Microbits by programming them to do multiple tasks. Some of the programs created include: Heart Meter, Card Game, Random Number Generator, Thermometer and many others. Students are encouraged to do out of the box thinking when creating and editing programs using scientific methods. My approach is twofold: 1) Use in the classroom and 2) implementation of a new makerspace in our library.

In my Workplace for Technology course, I plan to use Microbits as a STEM project for my classroom.

Students will learn about the device from Microbit website using python coding. A final project will be required for students to make their own program of choice with the materials learned.

The makerspace in the library will provide opportunities for students to learn about STEM with a series of stations. Microbit will be the first station created and developed for students to use. The library serves over 400 students and can provide a STEM learning opportunity.

We are excited to implement these initiatives within the district by using STEM as a learning tool both in and out of the classroom.
