My students need beginner pencils, crayons and notebooks to help foster fine motor skills to write. They also need iPads. The education apps on an iPad develop skills in reading/writing & spatial reason.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At the end of the school year, I want students to have a love for learning. I want them to think abstract and question things even when they may think they know the answer so they can develop of a sense of assertiveness within themselves. My biggest challenge is the inability to express their ideas.

My students are all native Spanish speakers.

Some of them are newly arrived to the country and have never experienced schooling in their country. While others have a limited amount of English proficiency. A portion of my students also have an IEP and receive special services during the school day such as speech, guidance, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. My students' families try their best to help their child yet often times have difficulty because of the language barrier. Our school is located in a heavily populated section where there is a lot of overcrowding among the different grades. In spite of the overcrowding, our school embraces the diverse types of students we have and encourage a sense of community within the building. Our students' families come from a low socioeconomic status. Although they try their best to help their child often times they have difficulty because of the language barrier.

My Project

With the different learning styles and abilities that are present within my classroom, I find it almost necessary for my students to have such materials to ensure them of an amazing learning experience. Especially with the younger students I want to be able to grasp their attention by using hands on materials that they may not have regular access to at home. By using the Ticonderoga pencils and notebooks, I will help develop some of my students' abilities to write and express their thoughts on paper. The usage of the notebooks will allow students to have their growth noted and seen across the pages. The iPads and the stylus's in the classroom would help foster students to think creatively. As well as allow them to grow as learners in a digital age by using different means of technology. The Bob Books series will help motivate and encourage a passion for reading. Although the lines may seem simplistic, to a struggling reader those few words that were read accurate mean the world.

Donations to this project will help improve the classroom because it will allow for students to utilize different materials that will allow them to grow as a learner while developing a deeper understanding of concepts.

Most importantly, it will help build a strong foundation within themselves to help express their thoughts.
