My Students

I teach in a Title I School in East Harlem. Students come from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds but are extremely motivated to learn. Students spend many hours after school studying. My school is lucky enough to afford most of the students an opportunity to take AP classes. We also have a large percentage of the student body who are students with disabilities (20% or so) and have developed a great program for them through the school. These are disadvantaged but very deserving kids.

My Project

Our school's LGBTQ club has been asking for a classroom library for years. This year, using limited funds, I have started building this library as a resource for students to check out books that represent their identities. However, books are expensive and I am desperately seeking funds to expand the library.

In addition to these books, I am also asking for three short and low-cost science books to be added to a slowly expanding classroom science library.

Both of these libraries will provide resources to help students learn about topics and stories of their own choosing!
