My Students

My incoming seniors are amazing (I know because I have seen them grow up as freshmen!) They are 17 year-olds who contribute so much to our classes, school, and community. They are made up of students from many backgrounds and interests. Our students are into the arts, athletics, STEM and robotics, volunteering, adventuring outside, poetry, video game design, movies and TV, and more. Some are interested in everything and some haven't found one particular interest… Yet. BUT, they are interested in learning and absorbing knowledge to shape their own worldviews.

My Project

Our society is diverse and the population at DHS continues to reflect that growing diversity. This project will fund a new classroom library for students to research, read about, and engage in classroom conversations related to their own interest in learning about race and race relations in the U.S. and as resources for an autoethnography project.

How does a critical, reflective, and progressive analysis on the cultural, historical, linguistic, and systematic development of race and race relations in American society impact our worldview?

This will be the question students will explore as they interact with readings on race, culture, identity, and belonging. Help me create this classroom library to provide access to multiple voices in the American experience.
