My Students

My students have an extraordinary passion for reading. Fiction, Science, Social Studies, picture books, chapter books, comics; no matter the genre or level of ease, my students devour and engross themselves in each book as quickly as I can introduce them into our classroom library. No matter their level or interest, each student looks at each book in our class library as an opportunity to experience something new.

Each student treats their books like gold and are excited when they can have book discussions with their peers and can share their books with each other.

Nothing is more rewarding than watching how my students’ faces light up when I introduce new books, share one of my favorite read alouds, or share my favorite books from childhood. They have the most fun when they can borrow one of my books to read.

My Project

I am seeking to replenish my library with a wide range of leveled fiction books. Students are expected to raise their reading levels throughout the year by reading both in the classroom and at home.

For many of my students, however, the only exposure they have to books is when they are in classroom.

A low point for my students is the day they have to change their books and they’ve realized they have read all the books in our library and when they cannot take books home for the night because there are simply not enough left. Often times my classroom library is either lacking their needed independent reading levels or their is not enough books to go home for the night. These much needed books will not only help my students become better and stronger readers, it will also continue to bring excitement and joy in their everyday lives as they engross themselves in new books.
