Adolescence can be a tough period in a child's life. Unfortunately, many of the students that I work with have no outlet to escape from the everyday pressures of becoming a teenager. Between pressures from school, home, and friends, my students become overwhelmed. I want to help them progress through this phase of their life successfully. Reading is an outlet that is helpful in progression of becoming a teenager and eventually an adult. However for me, I never realized how reading can help to get past a difficult period in one's life until I became an adult. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get the idea across of using reading as "therapy" when you are faced with a group of students who have no interest in reading. I believe that this is due partly to the fact that my students have not come in contact with a book that has captured them to the point where they decide to make the commitment to become lifelong readers. The other part is the fact that the books that are currently in my very limited library, simply do not interest my students. Many times I have heard the students say "there is nothing here I want to read" or "these books are wack!" After taking an informal survey of the books students like, and their interests, I have managed to compile a list of books that the should capture each and everyone of my students. However, without the funds necessary to purchase these books, I am afraid that my students will never experience the joy that a "great" book can bring to them
