Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Scholars are believers. They believe in themselves as much as I believe in them. It is their passion for learning, determination, and perseverance that inspires me to be an even greater teacher. Our school is located in Watts, Los Angeles, California. Though my learners and I are native to an area infamous for poverty, gang violence, and crime, we recognize Watts as a colorful community full of resiliency, resourcefulness, and culture. My students understand that they are presented with challenges every single day. However, they do not allow adversity to define them or their success.

As soon as my Scholars step into our classroom, they engage, problem solve and think critically about academic and social topics.

As reflective thinkers, they have learned to embrace challenges and experiences in order to propel themselves forward. The students in room 19 harness their knowledge and allow it to transcend them into the dreamers they set out to be.

My Project

A new classroom library would foster my students' love for reading. There is a beauty to sitting at a class library, opening a book, turning each page, and letting a book be your travel ticket to your escape.

After virtual learning, my students will enjoy the opportunity to physically hold a book once again and be transported to a different world and time all through the pages of a book.

I've selected books that my students can enjoy, connect to, and find culturally relevant. I want my students to be able to see themselves in the books they read.
