Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are witty, clever, and have a great sense of humor. They each have unique personalities and learning styles, with their needs differing greatly.

They are the epitome of resilience, persevering despite the many difficulties they face some faculty and staff have not experienced during their longer lifespans; working closely with them each day is inspiring.

Teaching students with disabilities means I must utilize my creativity, which is what initially brought me to this platform. My students encourage me in ways they may not be aware of, I am constantly in search of opportunities and resources so I am able to give them what they are so deserving of: a quality and engaging educational experience.

My Project

Technological advances within classrooms provides an invaluable resource when connected online. It allows us to engage with content differing greatly from life before access to devices with Internet use. Now, in real time, we are able to search for further information related to pertinent questions students have.

My project is to obtain an Apple iPad to access literacy and decoding programs across core subjects.

I serve special education learners in self-contained and collaborative settings teaching Algebra, Biology, English, and Social Studies. The iPad will provide to access apps such as Inkflow for sketch notes, Edmodo for organization, Kahoot! for quiz reviews, PowerSchool Assessments, and other emerging technologies during instruction.

Once funded, a classroom iPad will enable us to create together engaging my students in a new way by creating sketch notes as a class, review content, and prepare for standardized testing and have fun simultaneously. Sketch notes are a fun interactive way where students create doodles and images related to the content in ways they would best associate with their memory.

Many of my students are visual learners, and use introduction of the iPad for sketch notes will be a game changer, allowing my students to add their own creative touch to guided notes. Inkflow and other applications will enhance reading and writing skills and address decoding deficits across all core subjects.

Several of my students do not have access to personal electronic devices or Internet use at home. In our school, access to technology labs with working devices is a challenge and a classroom iPad will be extremely beneficial.

Use of this device will enable us to connect further with the world outside of our classroom, keeping us knowledgeable of how our lessons relate to occurrences in our ever-changing global community.
