Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first year teacher, I will have the privilege of teaching a diverse group of biology and medical intervention students who are eager to learn! This year I’ll be working at an urban school where students face challenges in acquiring basic school supplies like annotating and modeling tools. These materials are valuable in helping students stay engaged and participate to their full potential in our interactive science activities!

Providing materials like highlighters, tape, glue, and scissors will help students as they explore scientific concepts through modeling, concept mapping, and drawing.

Visual representation helps students collect, process, and understand information better, and color-coding projects will help students organize their thinking. These strategies give students the opportunity to visualize their learning in a more hands-on approach, thus meeting the needs of my diverse students. I love that students can be creative and express their knowledge through a more visual way and hope to embed many modeling activities throughout the coming year. My growing scientists and I would appreciate any materials that will help them illustrate their scientific understandings in our future projects!
