Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is an inner city Title I school. Our state reading and math scores need major improvements. As a Spanish teacher, I am doing my part by offering a Spanish language program that incorporates regular the language along with centers which focus on math, science, and reading/writing for elementary students.

Learning a second language is vital in today's day and age.

Many of my students are still attempting their hand at English even if it's their first language. I have created several centers for them to enrich their interest, expand their knowledge and to practice languages. I teach all elementary (pre-K through 5th grade as well as one daily section of Spanish II in middle school.

My Project

My floor is a cold hard slab of cement. There are no tiles, just grey cement. A small, colorful, carpet and some bean bags will create a comfortable and cozy area for them to read, pair share, and practice language skills.

Students will feel more comfortable reading and working together in a comfortable setting once they have completed their regular work.

I have a wide ranging library of books from beginners to advanced. This reading corner center will encourage students to complete their work, so they too can share in the joy of reading.

I am also developing a math center, science center and an iPad center (iPads are here!). The photo shows the literacy corner in the very back. There is nothing so far except cement and books!
