My Project

Hazeltine Avenue Elementary is a Title II school in Van Nuys, California. I have a class of 24 students, including English language learners and students with special needs. Many of my students attend an after-school program because their parents are working full-time jobs. This year, I want to teach my students the importance of financial literacy.

My Classroom Economy is an online program that teaches students financial responsibility through fun, experiential learning.

It is based on the idea students need to earn classroom "dollars”.

Each student will be held responsible for having a classroom job. They will be expected to pay rent each month, but will also get paid wages for doing their job. However, for my classroom economy to be a success, I will need to have a fully stocked store with items that I can use for monthly auctions. Students may bid on items of interest. By bringing real-world scenarios into the classroom, students see the impact of their decisions to save, spend, and budget.

I am unable to pay out of pocket for these rewards. Your generosity makes a difference and is much appreciated.
