This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students/kiddos are diagnosed with Autism and other developmental disabilities. They range from Kindergarten to 2nd grade in a 12:1:1 self-contained Special education classroom. They have multiple learning styles but they learn best through hands-on and sensory experiences. I have had the privilege of working with them this past year remotely and in person.
My Project
Providing students with a cozy library corner will allow them to immerse themselves in reading. Reading is essential for learning. My cozy corner is more than just a library where my students can sit back and read. It's a place for them to socialize and increase their social skills. It's a place for them to take breaks when they need one. Working with students with Autism and other developmental disabilities, it's important to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. I believe this cozy corner will do just that. It will give them a chance to read at their own pace. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. These books encourage individuality, multiculturalism, and family. They target socio-emotional development. My students will be able to select a book on their own, sit back, relax, and read.
