My Students

Is there a job better than mine? If you asked me, the answer would be no – without any hesitation. I wholeheartedly believe I have the best job in the world. I set my alarm each night knowing that I get to wake up to go teach the best class in the world, at the best school in the world. The students, the faculty, and the hard-working parents make my job a pleasure, because we all share one thing – we value the importance of education.

Third grade is a major developmental year in which students display much growth in many key areas.

Students become more self-aware as they begin to apply deeper problem solving skills and analyze more complex pieces of literature. At this stage, children are able to take their writing to different depths as they experiment with multiple paragraph papers in various genres. Another noticeable area of development is independence – third graders’ blossom in their capabilities to perform different tasks independently. Because of these drastic maturations seen in children throughout the year, third grade is often considered to be a part of upper elementary grade levels.

My Project

I am requesting Chromebooks, because the use of Chromebooks would be very valuable throughout various activities, especially in creating animated stories – not only would students become the author of these stories, they would also be able to act as illustrator, animator, and the voice behind their stories. Another aspect in which the Chromebooks would be beneficial is the preparation of instructional slide shows. Slide shows allow students to teach their peers about a subject; after all, being able to teach a topic demonstrates a deeper level of understanding. The use of Google Apps would also be facilitated by such an addition in the classroom – groups of students could more easily collaborate on research projects. Additionally, Chromebooks allow students to experience many fascinating virtual field trips that may not otherwise be an option or possibility. Finally, students would be gaining the frequent practice necessary to become proficient at touch typing.

Computer proficiency is no longer an option – it is a necessity.

In today’s world, many college classes are offered at least partially online; hybrid classes even begin as early as high school. Hardly a job exists that doesn’t require computers in some context. To stay competitive in the modern world, we need citizens who innovate, collaborate, and problem solve. In the current climate, none of that is possible without being fluent with computers. To prepare the generation of future innovators in my classroom, access to Chromebooks is essential. Investing in our kids now is an investment in our future later.
