My Students

"We've arranged a civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science and technology," Carl Sagan once said. If this is true, it is important that our children have access to modern technology in the classroom.

The students in the Brooklyn elementary school where I teach are bright and creative.

The school has a focus on education through the arts and the students enjoy the ability to express themselves through visual arts, dance, and theater. They come from diverse backgrounds and have similarly diverse interests and talents. While they have a rich experience in arts education, my school is not as rich in technological resources. Unfortunately, the few computers available to the students in my class are very old and no longer function properly.

My Project

A functional laptop computer that is available for student use will allow students to do many things including perform research for projects and use educational websites and apps to supplement their learning. With a student computer in the classroom, I will be able to set up small group learning centers in which groups of students take turns engaging in learning activities on the computer that complement our class work.

A computer in the classroom will give students access to the ideas and information that they otherwise may not have been exposed to.

For a few of the students, access to a computer in school is the only access they get to such technology.
