My Students

In my classroom, we have routines and expectations for great and fun learning. Reading, writing, and math are all based on a workshop model that requires collaboration with one another. "Most great learning happens in groups. Collaboration is the stuff of growth." -Sir Ken Robinson Ph.D.

I am a third grade teacher, with 26 amazing children.

We are in an inclusion environment, with regular education students and students on Individual Educational Plans. Our day is filled with engaging lessons that require collaboration with one another. We have a great community of learners. My students are enthusiastic about learning and sharing their learning with others. They also know that in our classroom, it is okay to stumble and make mistakes as long as you try your best. Our school is a great community that fosters the love of learning and respect of individuality. This is true not only for the students of the school, but also the educators. The administration is very supportive and welcomes passion and creativity within the classroom. Parents are very involved in the school community, as well. They are a very important part of the school and students' learning. "It takes a village," and parents are a critical piece to the puzzle.

My Project

Right now I have 27 single desks in a small classroom. They are in groups of either 4 or 5, and the students are cramped. They bump into each other or cannot easily pass in between groups. Throughout the day, the desks somehow magically shift and create zig-zagged groups. With these 6 round tables and the rectangular activity table, the classroom would be organized in a way that supports engaged, collaborative learning. It will also help create guided groups and allow me to easily move from group to group, helping students. These tables would allow for a better flow in an otherwise cramped classroom. I also believe that the look and arrangement of a classroom helps to engage and foster learning.

With your donation, students will be able to engage in guided groups, partner work and discussions.

Students will be able to sit at the table and convey their ideas in a way that allows all students to feel listened to and respected. These tables would help to create an environment that welcomed thinking, creativity and communication within the classroom.
