My Project

Science class is filled with wonder, discovery and amazement! Students are forever seeking the opportunity to engage in real-world activities with their peers. Children love the idea of making their own slime! This hands-on group activity allows them to observe how new substances are formed through molecular changes, all while using simple, household ingredients - shaving cream, school glue, food coloring and corn starch!

My 5th grade students have a variety of preferences and learning styles.

It is important that they are able to connect with one another through teamwork, collaboration, discussion, and decision making. These skills help prepare them for the more challenging years ahead - high school, college, the work force and adulthood. They will work within their teams, making decisions about the use of color, utilizing tools to measure their ingredients, discussing the chemical reactions taking place and collaborate as to how they may share their final product. It is truly amazing to see the excitement in these students taking charge and responsibility of their learning. They then get to walk away with a little magic that they created.
