Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school's vision is to lead boys toward a realization of their innate strong character – boys who are family oriented, community conscious, and globally aware. Through a firm foundation of intellectual and academic diligence, our students are equipped to meet and exceed the expectations of challenging middle and high school environments and are eager and determined to pursue college education.

I never dreamed after retiring from a successful 32 year teaching career that I would fall in love with a group of students again.

It began innocently enough, I volunteered twice a week. Soon, I couldn't wait to get there on my volunteer days. My boys are all low income and mostly minority. Their lives are rough, but everyday they show up with a smile. When the school asked if I would consider coming out of retirement - I didn't even ask the salary!

One day I had my boys finish the sentence, "I wish my teacher knew" and their answers broke my heart. Many said they wanted to do their homework but couldn't because they had no pencil, or no one would help them. My boys want to SHINE, we provide that opportunity!

My Project

Headphones will allow me to individualize instruction without the chaos and noise of students all listening to each others instruction. These headphones will enable student to focus on their own course of instruction.

Without headphones students won't be able to focus on their individualized plan!

While one student is working on a geometry lesson his neighbor may be working on writing an essay or science lesson.

My goal is to provide the most individualized instruction possible within the constraints of a classroom. The thought of each student working independently makes me smile.
