Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our fourth grade students do not have desks for storage in our school. They have tables without any personal space to call their own. Storage sacks attached to their chairs will give them this space and the opportunity to manage materials on their own.

This class consists of fourth grade special education students in a New York public school system.

They live in a low-income area with limited resources on a daily basis. These students are eager to learn each day and deserve the same opportunities and resources as other children in this state.

My Project

One major aspect of fourth grade is accountability. Part of this responsibility includes being mindful of one's materials for all subject areas. This concept is not possible to achieve without personal desk space. Since our school is unable to acquire individual desks for these students, these storage sacks would make a great second option.

Fourth grade special education students are faced with several challenges in the public school setting.

Organization is one obstacle to overcome and maintain. Having these storage sacks at their chairs will only help and push them in the right direction. Students need structure to feel safe and confident. Having awareness of one's materials jump starts this confidence to achieve success in the classroom.
