This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a STEM magnet school which emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. My students come to school not only ready to dive into inquiry, but also to focus on helping others and being kind.
My second graders also enjoy reading and helping out to keep our classroom organized.
They thrive on being part of a classroom and school community. It is exciting coming to school each day as their teacher and watching them grow and learn how to care for others.
My Project
My sweet second graders currently need a new classroom carpet where everyone will fit and have their own personal space.
Our current rug simply is not large enough for all of my students.
We do a lot of group work and learning on our carpet, and will use it every day. Students enjoy using our rug for class meetings, community circle, our word work center, and a general meeting place.
My students would love a rug with boxes, where everyone has their own space. This particular rug also has calming colors, which will benefit many of my students as well.
More than half of students from low‑income households
