My Students

My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting, and it is anything but typical! Some of the students have special learning needs and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. The parents are very supportive and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories, and learning new things. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school with high expectations for all.

Each day we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. Distance learning during the pandemic consists of live, online instruction on Zoom, and using iPad apps and websites. This is very difficult for four year olds, who can’t even sit through a movie!

My Project

One day in the near future, my students hope to be learning at our school site instead of at home on the computer. To do this, we will need health and safety basics such as disinfecting wipes, a thermometer for taking temperatures, gloves, and tissues.

It is more important than ever that we practice good health habits and keep germs away.

One of the ways we will do this is by providing each student with an individual supply of basic items such as pencils and markers. We won’t be able to share as we have in years past.

We are asking for the help of the amazing community of donors here at DonorsChoose. With your support, we will be able to meet this challenge and keep students and staff safe at school during this pandemic. Thank you for your help!
