This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For schools that serve lower-income students, such as mine, who were already behind the starting line, the challenges of daily life are even greater to keep up with during this current recession. This year, as a second-year special education teacher, I am the one in need of help. I service students of multiple grades with learning disabilities, specifically in reading and math.

Given that I don't have a traditional homeroom that brings supplies to me, this project will provide necessary supplies for my resource team and I to teach and have a functioning classroom for our special education students.

These particular supplies are part basic students supply items like pencils and pencil pouches. My team and I often provide them to transfer students who come with nothing or to our students during the latter part of the year. The other supplies are the basics for what we (resource teachers) need for a functioning classroom. The supplies are typically not provided by the students' parents or guardians to US, and the school has a limited budget for the year as far as classroom supplies. This is the time of year when we run low on everything or are completely out. Every little bit helps and is appreciated.
