My Students

Sharing is caring! My students share their ideas and strategies while solving problems in class but it is difficult when they need to share a calculator. Our calculators are old and many display screens are scratched leading students to copy incorrect digits.

Variety is the best way to describe my students.

I have many bright students who are energetic and eager to learn. They are constantly challenging me during my lessons and offer a variety of different ways to answer question but sometimes make errors with basic computations. Another group of my students are at or below grade level and need to have a calculator to verify their answers or assist when they get confused with basic multiplication facts.

My Project

My goal in the seventh grade is for my students to recognize ratios when solving problems and how proportions can help answer the questions. We use proportions to solve percent word problems which sometimes involve very large numbers. We will be reviewing these problems before we take our state exam and I want the students to focus on the comprehension of the problem and how to organize it and less on the computations of the numbers. Another focus is solving in an algebraic manner. We use our algebra skills to find the radius and diameter of a circle and calculators are essential when dividing with π.

Your donation will allow my students to each have their own calculator that function correctly and all have the same functional keys.

This will allow them to work individually and gain the confidence they need in their skills to comprehend the word problems instead of worrying about the computation of the numbers.
