My Students

This class is a blended class of gifted and highly motivated students. There are 30 students in this class. About half of the class has been tested and identified as gifted and talented students. The other half of the class does not have the "gifted" label, but are very motivated learners. Students range in age from 11 to 12 years old and a diverse both in terms of ethnicity and economically. I enjoy coming to work every day because of these inspiring young people!

My Project

This year, my students will read "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. We will begin by learning about the Victorian era in London, England and how the time period influenced his books. We will also learn about Dickens' childhood and how it influenced his worldview and texts. While reading, we will focus on aspects such as plot, character development, static vs. dynamic characters, vocabulary, and literary devices such a metaphors, personification, and symbolism. Having a personal copy of the book to keep and take between home and school will help students complete the necessary work and activities associated with it.
