Having a classroom pet will help motivate several of my students who struggle with remaining on task. It will also provide a reward system to help care for the bearded dragon. We have learned all of the ways we must provide appropriate care for our pet and are so excited for its arrival.
My students reside in a residential care and treatment facility and come for many different types of home environments.
We have low class numbers which is why I am able to teach multiple grade levels at one time. My students are always excited about learning new information and have literally soaked up all the information available on caring for our new pet. Students are already waiting their turn for the possibility to care for the pet.
The supplies we receive will help us care for our classroom pet for the long term and will ensure the care for the class pet for the majority of the school year. The pet my students have selected for this year is a bearded Dragon, the supplies funded by DonorsChoose will help ensure that our class pet will be cared for for a long period of time. We have elected to receive items like a cave, a healthy habitat is important for any pet to be comfortable. We have selected the warmers to keep the dragon warm and a thermometer to regulate the temperature. Our dragon will also require a long-term enclosure. While it will arrive as a juvenile, before long it will mature into an adult. Our class wants to make sure that we have all the supplies that are cost prohibitive for us to purchase independently but with the assistance of DonorsChoose we can hopefully obtain all supplies. Creating a great and comfortable environment for the pet will help keep it healthy and happy.
This pet will help them develop responsibility for caring for another animal and ensuring that the pet is receiving all of the care it requires.
Obtaining the pet will also foster their love of science and they will have hands on experience with a live animal.
