This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a smaller school for our area filled with great kids that are willing and ready to learn! My students are from various backgrounds and they each bring unique qualities to our classroom! Everyone is different, but they work together extremely well and enjoy collaborating on group projects and activities. They are full of energy and love to move around and do active things like play sports or dance. They are constantly smiling and always chatting with each other!

My Project

These students are new to my class. They have come into the classroom and really enjoyed that we have a class pet. They love the fish and want to know more about him. Our class beta fish is extremely popular! Their love of fish inspired this project! Our students will be participating in a class project to create and sustain a class vegetable and herb garden.

This kid inspired project will allow the students to have the fish in class that they have requested and it will expand into a better understanding of nutrient dense foods and how they can be grown.

Students will use the materials to grow the micro-greens requested in both an outdoor garden as well as inside in an Aquaponic system. In addition to the indoor garden, the students are always asking to go outside! Due to this student request, we have added an outdoor garden component to the project. The students love being outdoors and always ask to take our studies outside! With this project, we will be able to fulfill that student request and learn about nutrient dense foods outdoors! The kids have also requested a chalkboard to be used to record data daily and to chart progress during the vegetable growing process. They enjoy drawing, so the chalkboard will be a place to sketch as well as write and record quantitative data! This project will allow students to learn about these great foods and harvest them once they have grown them! These students will be healthier and happier by participating in this awesome class project!
