This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting a class set of dominoes to enhance my Computer Science Game Design course by incorporating hands-on, analog games into our curriculum. While digital game development is a core focus, studying classic games like dominoes will provide students with a deeper understanding of game mechanics, strategy, and player interaction in a screen-free environment.

Exploring Core Game Design Principles: Dominoes introduce turn-based play, probability, pattern recognition, and strategic thinking, all essential to game design.

Encouraging Collaboration & Social Play: Physical games foster face-to-face interaction, discussion, and teamwork, crucial for developing multiplayer and cooperative game mechanics.

Creative Game Modification: Students will analyze, modify, and create new rules, deepening their understanding of game balance and player engagement.

Screen-Free, Accessible Learning: Many students have limited access to computers. Dominoes provide an equitable, hands-on approach to studying game design.

Goals for This Project

Broaden students’ understanding of game mechanics and strategy.

Provide opportunities for teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Encourage creativity in modifying and designing new games.

My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn through play. They bring diverse perspectives and thrive when given interactive, hands-on experiences. Many already engage deeply with digital games, and incorporating physical games provides a fresh, inclusive, and engaging way to study game design.
