My Students

We are doing amazing things in our classroom and would like to document it on our class and crew websites for parents, guardians, administrators and other teachers to view.

We are a NYC public school with public school needs.

My students come from many economic backgrounds. They are from many countries around the world, and they are at different academic levels. We range from special education students to the very high-functioning students. They attend an expeditionary learning school, where textbooks are rarely used and experiences and field work help students to build lasting connection with the subject matter. We believe in cross-curricular learning expeditions, where all subjects contribute to a common subject matter. In this way, we are utilizing more skills than just traditional pencil and paper abilities. This type of teaching necessitates great preparation on behalf of the teachers and greater attention on behalf of the students. Due to this intense and enriching environment, some students can feel challenged because we are pushing thinking and requiring higher order thinking skills in order to complete a task.

My Project

We will be using the classroom camera to document important events in our crew, our classroom, our environmental field work, our classroom experimentation and in our daily lives at school. Sixth graders take great pride in our school and have created websites which they would like to see more people visit. It was one of their ideas that we need to post pictures. Then students, parents, guardians, administrators and other schools would be more interested in seeing what we are learning and experiencing in our school.

Documenting student learning with cameras not only motivates students to do more meaningful work.

It also provides valuable real world photography experience and excitement in sharing their experiences with their parents, siblings, community and the world.
