This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has been doing remote or hybrid learning since March of 2020. Students have a need to connect to one another for social emotional support. I'm organizing a book club so students can continue reading for fun and to connect with one another.
My students attend a public urban high school that is 64 percent low income.
My Project
These materials will be used for summer reading for the members of our school's city champion Battle of the Books Team. As part of this team, our students read 21 different titles and then compete on knowledge of the books.
By funding these ten titles, our students will be able to start out the year having already read some of the books so that they will be ready to compete during the Spring.
This will give our students a running start for their second season of city wide reading competition.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
