Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each of my advanced placement students enters their junior year full of excitement. I intend to meet that excitement with quality experiences that expose them to what the American Dream is all about.

These students are high achieving juniors and seniors that have succeeded at an exemplary level on the Global Regents exam in their sophomore year.

They have been selected to be members of the Advanced Placement American Studies program due to their drive and thirst for knowledge. My students come from different sections of New York City and represent many ethnic and racial groups. The one unifying academic factor is the need for challenging courses for growth as scholars. Also, they all come from families that are struggling financially.

My Project

This book will be one of our primary texts to help empowering each of my students to investigate their own unique voice. Each Voice in the text will provide a small glimpse into the history of the United States. Additionally, each student will get to read first-hand accounts of what it means to be a "good citizen" and live up to the ideals of our Constitution. All are created equal. Through this investigative course students will be able to identify and connect with others lived experiences. This is what true Empowerment looks like.
