My Project

Our elementary services roughly 450 students as a Title I school where my students are considered to be an at-promise population. Most of my students come from single parent homes and non-traditional households with relatives and foster parents providing care. Access to books and hands-on learning materials is limited. The library provides a space for our students to choose and be exposed to all types of books and activities that they would otherwise lack at home. It is heartwarming when the kindergarteners get so excited about a book they have found and want to read or they build something and want me to see it and most times take a picture. As a STEAM academy, I incorporate STEAM activities with literacy for all ages by providing Makerspaces and Centers in the Library. We strive to keep up with the newest ways to engage students with 21st century concepts to help them prepare for the future.

The students love when new books are delivered to the library and they see me working on them.

It's like Christmas! Between teaching classes and manning the circulation desk, I spend every spare moment processing new books so they can get on the shelf for students to check out. We just received our last order of the year with lots of exciting titles. However, I have spent the library budget on these books and need items to make these shelf ready. The tape will allow me to protect barcodes and spine labels as well as any needed repairs. The bins will allow students to access these new books quickly.
