My Students

My students are an energetic and excited bunch of kindergarten to second graders. Our classroom is involved in the Autism Initiative Verbal Behavior Program. All of my students are diagnosed with autism, and they have a range of needs that are addressed through small group and one-to-one teaching sessions.

My students are excited to be able to have a comfortable place to sit and participate in group activities!

My students are working to improve not just their academic skills, but communication and social skills, so that they can interact with their world in the fullest way possible.

My Project

My students participate in morning meeting every day, along with at least one group activity in the afternoon. We are working on talking about the calendar and the weather, along with practicing turn-taking skill and our ability to sit and listen to a story. At the moment, we are moving around classroom furniture to avoid sitting on the cold, hard floor. This play mat would ensure a more comfortable space for us to sit and participate in group activities. In addition, it will be an easy mat to keep clean and wiped off!
