My Students

In today’s ultra-competitive school setting, it is hard enough being a student. Now, imagine trying to learn the abstract concepts of math, the findings of Newton, the style of Picasso, and the myriad ways to spell the long-e sound while dreading to go to recess/lunch because you are being bullied.

I teach 24 wonderful and enthusiastic 3rd-grade students who work very hard in their studies despite the barriers that our poor neighborhood presents.

Many of my students are English Language Learners, who find themselves even more disadvantaged due to language barriers.

My Project

Through the power of books and establishing a love for reading, I aim to alleviate my classroom of the horrible repercussion that bullying presents by teaching anti-bullying behavior and character development, as not only does bullying distract victims inside the classroom, occupying their every thought in how to avoid a certain student (as opposed to focusing on curriculum), it can also leave permanent, life-long psychological scars. Technology opens a new and exciting way to read and learn more about bullying and other educational subjects to promote the love for reading in my classroom and motivate my students.

Please help us succeed in our project by supporting my students become aware of the concepts and misconceptions of bullying and empower them to take appropriate action, all while instilling the love of reading.
