My Students

Our students represent the vibrant and diverse neighborhood in Denver. Northwest Denver, or "the Highlands" as realtors like to call it, is a rapidly growing area. Our classroom community represents the hard-working, multi-generational families and new wave of professionals moving to the neighborhood. The sense of growth is palpable in our community, and looking at our growing test scores, applicable for our school as well.

With a class of 35, and the many varied personalities each student brings, every day is filled with its share of laughs, successes and the occasional challenge.

Teaching such a large group of students can have its obstacles, but I have been amazed to see their desire to grow, willingness to learn and sheer joy when working together.

My Project

The Common Core Standards require that kids spend time researching and presenting their work in online formats. This year my students will be spending time researching different weather conditions and the ways in which conditions change because of the uneven heating of Earth’s surface by the Sun's energy. We will use online applications to measure differences in temperature, air pressure, wind and water in the atmosphere and report our findings. Students will then put their learning into action at the end of the year when they complete their exhibition projects. Furthermore, students may take on an environmental or societal issue and they will research, present, and take action on a problem facing our world today. They will use online applications to research and present their findings.

Access to chromebooks is vital for students to be able to maximize not only their personal learning but their ability to take action.

Due to the generosity of our community, my 5th graders already have access to some chromebooks, however my goal is to have a one to one ratio of students to chromebooks. I am asking for twelve chromebooks for our classroom. My students use chromebooks on a daily basis for google classroom, inquiry based learning, online math applications, and much more. Your donation will help my students reach their potential in becoming globally minded citizens out to change the world.
