My Students

As a society, we expect teachers to prepare students for college and career, but we do not always provide them with the technology necessary to achieve that goal.

Instead, we assume that students should have access to technology at home.

Sadly, this is not always the case, especially for my students, most of whom will be the first in their families to attend college. Why should some students, in order to complete their homework, have to get on a bus and travel to their local library, while their richer counterparts can stay in the comfort of their homes? Unfortunately, this digital divide contributes directly to the academic achievement gap.

My Project

That's why I'm excited about allowing students to check out Chromebooks overnight to complete their homework. Some students have Internet access but no computer; the Chromebook will be instrumental for writing and research. Other students have neither Internet nor a computer; the Chromebook's offline features on Google Drive will allow them to draft essays and make revisions to their writing, ready to be synced at school the next morning.

Technology is not an added and unnecessary feature to education.

If we expect our students to use technology in college and career, we need to let them practice with technology in high school. Thank you very much for your commitment to this project!
