My students are great. They are future scholars (mostly!) and excellent citizens. They are fortunate to attend one of the most diverse schools in the country. They take advantage of this diversity and learn from each others' cultures and traditions. I especially appreciate the 10-15 students who regularly come to my room at lunch to play chess. Our school is in the heart of Los Angeles, but it also has a good neighborhood feel. I am lucky to be here!
My Project
We need Chromebooks in the classroom to help students access our online curriculum. Six years ago I received 16 Chromebooks from generous donors. These Chromebooks put up a good fight, but a few have not survived the rigors of middle school.
We use Chromebooks and iPads in our English class on a daily basis.
Students complete online assignments, prepare for standardized tests, write essays, complete peer-reviews, and conduct research.
Here's a specific example: We use an online curriculum called StudySync. One of the features of this program is a Blast assignment. Blasts are short articles focusing on issues important to teens. Students read the article and respond to a prompt - on their Chromebooks. Their responses are then anonymously shared with their peers, who provide a rating and constructive comments. Students love the activity. We need reliable technology for assignments like Blasts.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
