My Students

This is my first year at an amazing community school in Brooklyn, NY. I use the word community, because they have an amazing philosophy of making sure the teachers, parents, and community are all connected to ensure a safe and successful learning environment. The school offers many enrichment programs and is incorporating project based learning in the everyday instruction. We are lucky to have a diverse school and classroom with students from many different backgrounds.

This year I hope to help them push my 1st graders' thinking, and give them an opportunity to discover new things around them by using technology.

The class is a Gifted and Talented class, and have many academic and creative talents. Everyday they amaze me with their interest in learning. These students have a love for reading, and enjoy taking GoNoodle dance breaks. This group of 30 very curious 1st graders, are hardworking and always asking questions that push my thinking. I am excited to see where this year takes us!

My Project

Our school is an International Baccalaureate candidate. This international program is designed to have teachers take more of the facilitator role, and have students make discoveries with guidance. They are going to be focused on not just our immediate community, but communities and people around the world.

To help my students become more independent researchers, it is important for me to increase our technology resources.

I currently have 5 older laptops for my students to use, but having an additional 5 will allow for more students to work at once. Since it is a large class of 30, having 10 laptops will allow for some collaborative computer work. The students will also be able to use them during stations to play the various literacy and math programs my school uses.
