Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve students who have learning and emotional disabilities as well as English language learners. The majority of my students live in low-income neighborhoods and/or shelters in the Bronx, New York. Although many of my students have trouble-some home lives, they strive to become better readers and writers through a rigorous reading and writing curriculum.

I use technology to aid in students’ assessments and classwork.

My students utilize sites such as NewsELA, Readworks, and Bookshare to annotate and engage in close reading activities. My students also learn to write expository essays and design persuasive slide presentations through Google Classroom.

My Project

Utilizing chromebooks in the classroom engages students in interactive learning experiences that develop their reading and writing skills.

As a title 1 school, my school makes every effort to provide learning resources for our students, but our budget does not allow us to provide enough chromebooks for all of my students.

This makes it difficult for my students to engage in research projects, create persuasive slide presentations, and utilize interactive programs that develop their reading and writing skills. These chromebooks would help my students to maximize our reading and writing periods, helping them to reach their full potential as learners.
