My Students

I teach 25 energetic kindergartners each day. The diversity found among these students is simply a mirror of our tourist-dependent community.

A large portion of my students are from single parent homes and over half of the district population are classified at the poverty level and one-fourth of that population are classified as intergenerational poverty students.

When students enter kindergarten, generally 50% or more score well below grade-level on our benchmark assessments. Regardless of these disadvantages, these students are excited to learn.

My Project

We are lucky to have access to an outstanding computer-based math and science program, that has proven to have significant effects on learning: Waterford Math and Science. However, to see the marked results that this program can produce, my students need to use the program for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. To make this happen, I have devised a plan to divide my class into thirds during my math block. This will allow for the 15 minutes of Waterford, 15 minutes of low-ratio teacher-time, and 15 minutes of independent application. This will only work with your help! I need Chromebooks and accessories to connect my students.

Your donations will be invaluable in helping close the achievement gap by allowing my students equal access to a proven program in math and science.
