My Students

"If we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of tomorrow." John Dewey My goal is to give technological access to my students during all parts of their instructional day to not only have the opportunities to show their learning, but also to prepare for their future.

Paper and pencil learning is archaic.

My 5th grade students are motivated and excited to be learning while using technology! My class is an energetic group of 5th graders in Elk Grove, California located in Sacramento County. We are a diverse school with students from many ethnic backgrounds, cultures, languages, and learning styles. Located in an old farming community turned suburb, we have a supportive parent base and community. However, when it comes to technology, our district is far behind. Chromebooks will give my students access to their Google Drives, which enables them to write, produce, research, edit, and share what they've learned. As their teacher, I can give them immediate feedback while working in their Google Drives. These ten and eleven year-olds love anything related to technology. Learning becomes fun and exciting for them when they can visit a website and play a game while learning math facts, coding, or practicing states and capitals.

My Project

Imagine a learning environment where information is at your fingertips! With Chromebooks, my classroom will be just that place. Chromebooks will allow my students to research, write, create, and review Common Core standards individualized to meet their learning needs. My students will have access to their Google Drive accounts where they can create slide presentations and have instant access to video, images, research, and websites for their topic. In addition, while they are working, I can see their work and give them immediate feedback on what to change, improve, or add. They also can create documents where they write essays aligned with Common Core standards. Our school also subscribes to a Common Core based site called Moby Max. It assesses students and assigns them lesson based on their assessments. Student, teachers, and parents can monitor their progress. It's a highly motivating and exciting program for kids. Also, students can learn to computer code at code.org.

Did you know?

• 90% of American schools don’t teach computer science. • Fewer students are learning how computers work than a decade ago! • All students can learn to code. But girls and students of color are severely underrepresented in computer science. (code.org) Computer science is and should be a foundation for every student. Please help my fifth grade students be the technologically savvy, motivated, and educated future citizens that they can become by supporting this project.
