My Students

Technology isn't going away. In fact, students in today's classrooms need to be more fluent and comfortable with all aspects of computers and the Internet than ever before. My kids need access to as much technology as they can get their hands on to be prepared for their futures.

My school is in a mid-income area with a high free/reduced price lunch population.

My kids come from diverse backgrounds and are all highly motivated to learn and grow. In a class of 29, everyone stands as an individual, and meeting those individual needs is paramount. My school is a welcome, warm place and everyone there knows the focus is on the kids. You couldn't ask for a more friendly environment in which to work and learn.

My Project

My students need 6 Chromebook computers. In my 5th grade class, these computers will be constantly in use. I have built a class website and from it student digital portfolios will be linked. Using every Google App available, we will learn and demonstrate our learning. Work will be public and published and live online for my kids to be able to hold up as evidence of their awesomeness. Chromebooks, unlike iPads, also have keyboards which mean the students will constantly be practicing their typing skills. Learning to type is like learning cursive for the 21st century.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom because currently I have only three iPads from the early 2000s and two MacBooks from even earlier.

My district doesn't have the money to update our technology to keep pace with our needs. Kids not only need to be using technology, but they need to be on up-to-date technology. Learning the old way only goes so far. Some kids don't have this access at home, so access at school will change lives.
